HOW THE ELECTRICITY MARKET PRICES ARE SET?

We constantly see how the electricity bill fluctuates, but this is nothing more than a reflection of the price of electricity. The question is: how the electricity market prices are set? How is the price of electricity decided? In our country this is done through a formula known as a marginalist market. THE FORMULA OF THE MARGINALIST MARKET The way in which electricity market prices are decided is simple. The highest price is chosen. The last plant that is needed to satisfy the demand is the one that establishes how much will be paid to the others. Nuclear power and hydro power are the first to enter the daily electricity market, also known as pool, and offer zero to have […]

ENERGY FORECAST METHODOLOGIES

Understanding and knowledge of the future are essential to good planning and organization. It is therefore necessary to have tools capable of making reliable forecasts. To this are basic energy forecast solutions. Energy forecast solutions allows, based on past behavior and environmental conditions, predict the behavior of the same element in the future. Depending on the environment, the future behavior of an element can be governed by stationary casuistry, or dispose of non-periodic behavior. Depending on the case mix and customer needs, they have different forecasting methodologies to adapt the behavior of information to provide.   SYMBOLIC PREDICTOR This forecasting method is an improved combination of techniques: Decomposition in seasonality Exponential Smoothing The decomposition naturally reflects seasonality allows periodic components […]

METHODOLOGY OF SOLAR ENERGY FORECAST

The higher penetration of renewable resources in the energy portfolios of several communities accentuates the need for accurate solar energy forecast at several different temporal scales in order to achieve power grid balance. Solar generation technologies have experienced strong energy market growth in the past few years, with corresponding increase in local grid penetration rates. As is the case with wind, the solar resource at the ground level is highly variable mostly due to cloud cover variability, atmospheric aerosol levels, and indirectly and to a lesser extent, participating gases in the atmosphere. That makes it even more difficult the solar energy forecast. SOLAR ENERGY FORECAST Solar energy forecast provides a critical input to predicting a solar power plants’ output at […]

SUSTAINABLE ENERGY FOR CLEANER AIR

Is evident our concern for the energy outlook. If we add that air pollution is a major public health crisis, with many of its root causes and cures to be found in the energy sector. And around 6.5 million deaths are attributed each year to poor air quality, making this the world’s fourth-largest threat to human health. Without changes to the way that the world produces and uses energy, the ruinous toll from air pollution on human life is set to rise. Is necessary a change in those energy outlook to short term. That is why the International Energy Agency (IEA) dedicates, for the first time, his Special Report to the World Energy Outlook, to the links between energy, air […]

WHAT SHOULD EUROPE DO ABOUT HIGH ENERGY PRICES?

Though Europe might have to live with higher energy prices than the US, it does not face a trade-off between remaining competitive and becoming sustainable. Europe will continue to see substantially higher energy prices than the US for a prolonged period of time – at least that is the verdict of Fatih Birol, chief economist of the International Energy Agency (IEA). This, the IEA argues, is mainly because of differing geological conditions. Even if it wanted, Europe could not easily escape the cost disadvantage by aggressively pursuing domestic production of oil and gas. The analysis that the extraordinary natural gas resource endowment of the US, and that the high cost of transporting gas across the Atlantic might lock-in price differentials […]

RENEWABLE ENERGY FORECASTING: WIND ENERGY AND SOLAR ENERGY

How might extremely accurate wind energy forecasting and solar energy forecasting help us use enough renewable energy to reach climate goals of significantly reducing carbon dioxide emissions? How might help us accurate renewable energy forecasting? Researchers at NREL’s new Energy Systems Integration Facility have the answer to how this renewable energy forecasting can help us. NREL start by looking at how well wind and solar power can offset each other. To what extent can wind blowing at night make up for the lack of sunshine? They are also looking at how to couple wind energy forecasting and solar energy forecasting with smart dishwashers, water heaters, solar-panel inverters, water treatment plants, and electric-car chargers, not only to accommodate shifts in the […]

Electricity price forecasting in Europe

The electricity price forecasting according to a report of the European Union on energy and greenhouse gases expected to continue rising until 2020, due to investments being made in renewable energy and the rise in the price of fossil fuels. According to the electricity price forecasting is expected to, thereafter, these investments begin to bear revenues and lower electricity price. It also provides for the report to significantly reduce emissions of greenhouse gases, although well below the targets set by the EU itself. The changes being experienced by the power generation sector require a large investment in capital intensive, and investments in transmission and distribution systems. This will have an upward effect on prices of electricity and energy system costs […]

Growth in energy demand to slow

Global energy demand grew only 1 percent in 2015. In BP’s latest “Statistical Review of World Energy,” the company found that global primary energy consumption grew by only 1 percent last year. That rate was similar to the growth rate seen in 2014 and significantly lowers than the ten-year average of 1.9 percent. Analyzing year 2015 According to BP, the slowdown was tied to slowing consumption growth in China. In 2015, China posted its slowest rate of energy consumption growth in 20 years, although it still remained the world’s largest growth market for energy demand for a fifteenth consecutive year. BP CEO Bob Dudley said that the energy industry is “seeing a gradual deceleration in global energy consumption as the […]
